May - June 2010 Report
Dear Ones,
“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). What a comfort it is to know that nothing is too small for God to notice, and that His vision includes all that lies on the road in front of us, so that He can make the neces- sary providential moves to bring into our lives what is best for us. That knowledge brings peace.
Closing in on an Anniversary

The Liberty elders: Benford Pierce, Harold Oswalt,
Tommy Moody, and Raymond Carr.
I don’t know the exact date when the Liberty Church of Christ in Dennis, MS first agreed to support our mission efforts, but fifty years ago — in July of 1960 — J.C. began visiting churches in preparation to go to Pakistan. Liberty supported us during those years, and then at the end of 1965 they assumed the responsibilities of sponsorship. That must be at least a near-record for one church to be involved in one mission effort.
Of course, J.C. and I were always mindful of the vital role of the Liberty elders and the church in all that we were doing, but their wisdom as elders became even more important at the time of J.C.’s death. They immediately wrote a letter to all the individuals and churches that had been supporting the work, assuring them that they would continue to receive funds and support on-going radio/TV/literature/ and personal efforts overseas. Because of their commitment, everyone continued as before, allowing the work itself to go on without interruption. I do not have words to express my thankfulness for their decision and for its tremendous impact on souls in our work area. Without that decision and letter, the entire base of the work could have been lost. That would have been devastating in itself, but coming at a time when the US economy was in dire straits, raising the needed replacement funds would have been impossible, and the time slots on radio and TV would have been lost. So, I am taking this opportunity to wish us all a “Happy Anniversary”!
Deadlines
May and June have been very busy. In fact, I am in such a tight situation on time just now that I will have to be very brief in this report. What is causing the pressure? (1) I have submitted no. 4 of Global Harvest to the printer, and am working through the technical prob- lems that have to be dealt with before the actual printing can begin. Since there is a deadline on this, the work has to be done now. (2) We lack about 20 pages having no. 65 of The Voice of Truth International ready to go to the printer. In addition, the proofing and corrections on all of the magazine must be done before submission. That, too, has a deadline and must be completed now. (3) I have been doing the layout on 60 tri-fold tracts to be printed in Hong Kong, along with Global Harvest. By having them printed and shipped at the same time, the delivery charges will be much less. Fifty-two are completed and corrected, with only eight to go! We anticipate using these here in the States, but their greater use may be overseas. These will be in full-color, dealing with lessons for the unbeliever, for the denominational person, and for members of the church — obviously, a wide range of subjects. Most are materials that J.C. wrote, but three were written by Louis, two by Jerry, and I have added some of my own studies, particularly in evi- dences. By doing this many tracts at once, the price has been reduced to 1/5 what it would cost to print the same thing in the States, so, this work, too, has a deadline and must be completed now.
The Central Church in Cleveland, TN

The hard-working group!
What a wonderful week of work we had when eighteen young people and seven adults from the Central church came down to erase all the projects from our list on the whiteboard! They worked so hard that on the last day they could hardly get up enough energy to eat! We are so grateful for their long-time support of the work. Through the years, in addition to the monetary gifts on a monthly basis, Central has always helped substantially whenever there was a crisis that required unexpected funds. They are foundational brethren.
The Missionary Retreat at Maywood
Again, about 100 attended part or all of the Missionary Retreat sessions at Maywood in Hamilton, AL. Those of you who have considered attending but have not yet done so are missing wonderful experiences. If you want to talk all day about spiritual things with others who also want to talk all day about spiritual things, this is the date to mark on your calendar! The fellowship is with some of the cream of the church, the lessons will cause you to be thinking what you might be able to do along that line, and the food does justice to the term “Southern Hospitality”. Make plans for next year.
Louis and Bonnie
Along with their daughter, Rebecca, and Randy, a member of the Collierville, TN church, the Rushmores are spending two weeks in Myanmar, teaching in a Bible school for young people. They report that the weather is hot but the school is going well. They will be home early in July.
P.K. and Thankam Varghese

P.K. and Thankam Varghese
P.K. and Thankam Varghese work with the Lord’s church in the extreme southern tip of India, in a city called Tiruvananthapuram. They are currently in the States, meeting with churches and people involved in the work. P.K. has preached the gospel for 41 years. He currently speaks on a TV program which we sponsor, publishes a monthly magazine which we also sponsor, translates Eddie Cloer’s Truth for Today, and fills his “spare” time working with three congregations in the area.
Please be praying for us and for the brethren with whom we all work overseas.
I love you. Betty (J.C.)
